What Sentra monitors

Providing a complete list of our range of applications is not possible – it is extremely comprehensive and growing all the time. Here though are some examples….

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance & monitoring

Sentra provides comprehensive and flexible AML monitoring feeds and inputs, which can be applied to an abundantly wide variety of sources, providing entry level AML or providing the ability to quickly and cost effectively augment other AML software and systems.

Sentra can also be integrated with other Big Data sources, to provide independent data verification correlation if required.

Application monitoring

Sentra provides comprehensive system, data and application monitoring for effective and efficient operations, reporting on any system irregularities, discrepancies, unusual activity or patterns, utilising a range of rules-based, fuzzy logic and machine learning techniques.

Batch processing efficiency & throughput optimisation

Insider Technologies provide solutions to extend the life of legacy applications including batch processing systems. Extended batch program runs can be re-configured to run in parallel, ensuring that batch runs approaching the limits of time constraints can continue, prolonging their use and further protecting previous investment.

Cash, liquidity & financial ratio monitoring and alerts

Whether maintaining our clients’ financial exposures within limits, alerting to overdue, delayed or uncleared payments; maintaining cash and liquidity positions, nostro/Vostro exposures; Sentra provides a comprehensive monitoring and escalation tool for any banking environment including SEPA, SWIFT, FED etc.

Compliance checking & monitoring

In today’s world, compliance checks are a reality, whether for AML, Sanctions Compliance, Fraud, Market Abuse or FATCA. Balancing the requirements of time critical money transfers, often before a daily cut-off deadline, against legal compliance is a fine balancing act which, if not managed correctly will quickly lead to loss of revenue, damages and/or heavy fines and penalties from the regulatory authorities.

Sentra will monitor outstanding approvals, slow or delayed transactions, anomalies or exceptions and intelligently calculated ‘time remaining to clear’ alerts, when transaction volumes start to exceed the time remaining before cut-off.

EMV transaction security augmentation

In the 21st century, debit and credit card fraud is increasingly organised and sophisticated. EMV is a major step in creating an environment where fraudsters find it much harder to generate bogus transactions, but there are still avenues where EMV protection can be compromised.

Sentra has the capability of performing additional EMV controls, checking whether EMV was in fact actually used, at which point, using which algorithm and whether certain other system characteristics confirm or conflict with the patterns identified.

FATCA

The provisions commonly known as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) became law in March 2010.

Sentra has the facility to monitor FATCA submissions and compliance checking, ensuring that legitimate payments are not unduly delayed and reporting is performed within time limits set by the institution.

Fraud detection

Whilst the sophistication and organisation of card and payments systems fraud has increased, the ability of Fraud Control systems to keep pace has fallen off. Most fraud detection, in use within banking and retail is still based on cumbersome ‘Rules based’ systems, perhaps augmented by ‘fuzzy logic’ or ‘artificial intelligence’, but fundamentally fraud has to be first identified and understood before a ‘rule’ can be written to detect it.

Sentra re-writes the rule book!

Whilst rules still have a place, Sentra Fraud Protection harnesses the very latest Machine learning techniques (including Neural Networks, Bayesian, C4.5 Decision Tree, Random Forest, Linear Regression, State Vector Machines; or any combination thereof) to monitor card, merchant, network and transaction behaviour. Increasingly fraud attempts, upon first presentation appear to be genuine, in order to profit though, the transactions need to be repeated or replicated, or the same channels / characteristics used. Sentra detects and alerts on these patterns and changes in conventional, ‘normal’ behaviour.

Gift voucher fraud detection

As with other elements of fraud, the customer, card, merchant and transaction data can be made to appear genuine, so Gift Voucher fraud can be perpetrated and is often not detected by conventional fraud systems…until it is too late.

Due to Sentra’s historical database which retails 100% or all transaction detail for 100% of all transactions, our system is capable of checking Gift Voucher purchase and purchase history, so whilst we may believe that you have three birthdays to buy for this month, thirty three!, or three hundred is worthy of suspicion, escalation and alert!

Geo-location tracking

Sentra is capable of integrating Social Media feed information with banking data to identify the location of customers who have geo-located themselves (via Facebook etc.) at their specific (holiday? business?) locations around the world.

In this way, card transactions appearing from unusual locations, can at least be cross-referenced to the presence of the cardholder in that location, reducing the probability that the transaction is fraudulent.

Offered as a service that enhances personal Identity Prtection this facility is potentially of great value to the cardholder, enhances the bank’s public image and perhaps for the very first time demonstrates a real reason for the cardholder to ‘like’ their bank!

HP Non-Stop (Tandem) system & application monitoring

As well as high level sophisticated monitoring of Big data, Social media, fraud patterns and the like, Sentra also performs full system monitoring of Tandem (HP Non-Stop) continuous processing systems, in their native NSK (EMS monitoring) and UNIX (Syslog monitoring) environments.

In addition to monitoring such items as disk full, lines, memory management etc., Sentra is also capable of self-diagnosis and dynamic system tuning, process initiation and amendment.

Hardware security module monitoring

The Sentra for SafeSign module will allow users to create a centralised database of performance data from one or more e-Security SafeSign Authentication Server or cryptographic environments and analyse the information in real time.
Using standard SQL reporting tools, such as Microsoft SQL Reporting Services™, an analysis of the performance data will provide a set of Service Management facilities and Management Information views. These will be displayed as a collection of web views that represent the environments being monitored and show real-time performance information, service level alerts with graphs representing the behaviour of nominated metrics, and management reports to monitor the Business objectives of the SafeSign Authentication Server service.
The Sentra for SafeSign module can:
• Read the contents of any e-Security SSAS log
• Read log file and table information directly from the SSAS SQL Database
• Read JMX performance counters and attributes from the Daemon process
• Read hardware performance data, subsystem performance data such as SQL performance metrics, and event log information
• Poll the cryptographic, HSM devices at a user defined interval and retrieve performance data relating to device memory status and certificate storage
• Display web view analysis of the environments being monitored and show real-time performance information.

Insider (staff member) fraud detection and forensic tracking/analysis

Sentra can be used to build forensic evidence chains in support of work flow activity to identify when certain individuals have had contact with specific customer files or cardholder records.

Evidential support data can be produced to show patterns which may correlate fraud activity with and to specific individuals.

Merchant refund fraud detection

Again, due to the fact that the Sentra database retains record of 100%of the detail of 100% of all transactions processed, attempts to return goods to a retailer for a refund on a card can be quickly and easily checked against previous purchase records for that card and or that merchant, store or chain of stores during the one month, three month or whatever designated period, the retailer’s refund policy allows.

Examples of stolen goods being returned for refund, or refunds being made in cooperation with the merchant retailer can be significantly reduced.

Message and email verification & tracking

Sentra provides the capability of tracking, integrity monitoring, delivery and read confirmation for email and other electronic communications.

Replicated messages sent across a network to facilitate speedier delivery can be destroyed once the first arriving message is confirmed at its destination.

Mobile asset tracking, location & history

We provide comprehensive track and trace capability for mobile assets, integrating complete audit trail, showing movements, purchase and sale records, etc.

Pre-paid card augmented verification

Instances are on the increase of cloned pre-pay cards with high or unlimited cash limits being established and used within the electronic transaction environment.

One recent case, involving just one Issuing bank, netted over $42 million for one criminal gang over a single weekend, the acquiring bank’s verification consisting of little more than confirming the cash limit available on the card.

Once again, for this type of fraud to be successful, the process has to be repeated time and time again for the value of the profit to be worthwhile.

Sentra will routinely report, escalate and alert when transaction patterns differ from the norm and in this case, the specific Bank Identification Code (BIC) on the card, which is normally handled by the bank four or five times a week, would be immediately notified when it is used four or five times in two minutes, 100 times in 15 minutes across the network, etc.

Queue monitoring, including contextual prioritisation

In IT systems management and infrastructure, MQ queues are often used to maintain free flowing data transmission and processing, passing data for processing and across networks etc. as capacity allows.

Many systems exist to improve flow by monitoring the queues that build up and spinning off extra processes etc. when capacity demands, e.g. a queue of 50 transactions may result in an extra process being initiated and the 50 message queue would be split into two queues of 25 messages each.

Sentra goes further by providing context based prioritisation, passing messages forward, replicating processors etc. based upon the actual message content, identifying for example a high value or urgent payment and passing it to the front of any queue(s) for immediate processing.

Reputation protection & social media management

In 2014, Insider Technologies recognised that our 25 year pedigree in monitoring high volume transaction systems can also be applied to the various Social media platforms.

Sentra Social Networks monitors the top Social media sites (currently Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube, Boards, Toplx, Facebook, WordPress, Reddit, DailyMotion, Bitly, Sino Weibo, Wikipedia, Blogs, IMDB, Newscred and Lexis Nexis), establishes using Sentimentality Analysis your ‘usual’ level and alerts whenever this level of positivity or negativity changes beyond agreed thresholds, thus allowing the organisation to react and respond to protect reputation and share price.

Revenue protection across networks

Sentra can be applied to network traffic to ensure that transaction message integrity is maintained and where applicable (e.g. in telecommunication networks) any revenue attributable to message routing is correctly apportioned and allocated, reporting and escalating when anomalies occur.

Sanctions & compliance checking and verification
