Schofields Insurance - A case study
Schofields Insurance Ltd wished to to improve their marketability through the use of the internet and to enhance their internal processes through a bespoke insurance provisioning system.
Insider was commissioned to design and develop a Holiday Home Insurance database application that would streamline the predominantly paper-based day-to-day operations of Schofields. This would lead to a reduction in the time they spent:
- transcribing incoming e-mails from their exiting web portal application into policy schedules and a Paradox database, and
- producting financial reports.
Our solution comprised of two main parts:
- Public web portal for clearing policy quotes
- Internal Insurance provisioning system
The public web portal offers:
- Customer details acquisition
- Question & Answer based look & feel
- Quote calculation engine based on Q&A
- SSL Support
- Encrypted quote deliver to internal Insurance Provisioning System (encrypted email)
The Insurance Provisioning System offers:
- Quote processing (Decrypted quotes)
- Policy lifecycle management, from policy clearing to policy renewal
- Document automation (i.e. policy schedules)
- Management/Underwriter reporting
- Claims/Payment handling

e:go Provisioning
The provisioning system was the configuration component of a unified messaging system that could be a service offered by the e:go consortium. The e:go provisioning system provided a means of configuring e-mail, voice and fax user accounts on several different software and hardware platforms.
The system consisted of:
- a web-based application from which single groups of accounts could be configured.
- an X500 directory schema to store configuration information; the NPLEX Global Directory Server product would be used.
- agent applications to forward data from the X500 directory to the software applications comprising the service.
The provisioning system was later enhanced to include a Billing component based on our Sentra product.
