e-Security Software Support and Development

In Finance Markets where security and authentication of transactions is essential, Thales e-Security provide cryptographic solutions to HP Non-Stop users. 

Thales supply cryptographic hardware which includes a range of Host Security Modules (HSM's) and a software interface between the HP Non-Stop application and the HSM. This software interface is the HP Non-Stop Security Resource Manager (SRM).

Insider has built a relationship with Thales to provide support and development services for their HP Non-Stop Security Resource Manager (SRM) software. Work undertaken includes:

Application code amendments: 

• Added version information to the original application so that customers can easily determine the version in use.
• Migrated the application to use D-Series Guardian Procedure calls and removed superseded Guardian Procedure calls.
• Amended the application so that it can run as High Pin.
• Improved the error reporting produced by the application.
• Removed limitations in the original application so that it can take advantage of the increased throughput offered by the HSM 8000 hardware.
• Eased the configuration of the application.

General Support: 

• Provided testing of the application code against new versions of the HSM firmware.
• Provided details of response times available when using the HSM 8000.
• Investigated customer problems on behalf of Thales.
• Performed Itanium accreditation testing of the application.

A case study - Shell SuperSIRAS

Faced with increased pressure to keep overheads to a minimum, operators of large vehicle fleets are increasingly making use of schemes that will allow them to reduce fuel costs and monitor the overall performance of each vehicle.  One such scheme, SuperSIRAS, is operated worldwide by Shell. 

In early 2000, Shell began a project to rollout and upgrade SuperSIRAS across Europe and South East Asia.  Insider was able to provide Shell Europe with: 

• an HP NonStop server that was utilised as:
•  a Disaster Recovery system for the European operation.
• a  User Acceptance Testing platform by the European project team.
   
• Operations staff to take care of day-to-day tasks such as backups.
   
• Technical consultants to:
•  design operations and DR procedures.
•  undertake more complex tasks, such as operating system upgrades.

As the project progressed, Insider also provided a remote operations service for an HP NonStop system owned by Shell and located in Hong Kong. 

In both instances, Insider's Reflex 80:20 HP NonStop Enterprise Monitor application was used to monitor  system resource and alert against any breaches of SLA or potential outages.
